Notes

June 1918 Warnham Parish Magazine – Harold Read:

has brought us honour by winning the Military Medal. The following letter speaks for itself:

To Corpl H Read, Middlesex Regt – I wish to place on record my appreciation of your bravery on the 29th and 30th March 1918 when you volunteered to go forward and locate some snipers. You scattered an enemy patrol, causing them casualties. By your gallant act you inspired the men to volunteer for the same sort of work thereby greatly assisting your commanding officer.
Sydney Lawford, Major-General, Commanding Division.
